Cavy Shows
The Southern Cavy Club itself sponsors a number of Stock Shows each year. These are Spring and Summer Stock Shows, a Young Stock Show and an Adult Stock Show, together with two South West Area shows.

Junior Members At all our shows there are specific classes for pure-bred cavies and Pet classes for our Junior members (from 7 to 16 years inclusive). Junior members are also permitted to enter in the main show classes as well, if they wish.

Pets

Even if you are unable to keep more than one or two cross-bred or pet guinea pigs or do not wish to get involved in showing purebreds competitively you can still go to shows and enter in the special pet classes which are judged purely on fitness, cleanliness and good behaviour. And our very important "Members Helpline" is very popular with pet owners and serious breeders alike.

Club Trophies
The Southern Cavy Club has numerous trophies available to be won by club members at the above-mentioned Stock Shows. These Stock Shows are held in different parts of the country, varying each year, depending on which local affiliated club is chosen as host.

Special Awards
All affiliated local clubs issue Southern Cavy Club special award claims at their shows. These are given to the major prize winners at each show, including Junior and Pet classes. The winners are able to obtain their award from the Southern Cavy Club if they are members.

Year Book
We have published a Yearbook every year for more than 50 years. In recent years the Yearbook has been 132 to 140 pages long. The Year Book is issued free of charge to all club members, usually during the Spring of each year and contains much of help and interest to members including :-

1.Articles and Hints on various aspects of cavy breeding

2.A full current list of members names, addresses and phone numbers

3.A list of all winners of Club Trophies, Star Awards and Championships granted during the previous year.

4 All leading breeders advertise their surplus stock for sale, generally covering most principal breeds of show cavies.

5 Many affiliated clubs advertise in the Yearbook (Details of your nearest local affiliated club are also available from the Hon Secs on receipt of a Stamped, Addressed Envelope).

6 A Show Dates Calendar listing the more than 200 shows which occur each year in the south and are run under the SCC affiliation scheme

New Members Pack
The Southern Cavy Club supplies each new member with New Members Handbook' an information pack giving advice leaflets, showdate calendar, pregnancy calculator, secretaries addresses, show regulations, book list, health and feeding advice, etc.

Championships
The club has two special awards, the Star Scheme (dealt with later) and Championships.A Southern Cavy Club Championship can be claimed by any member who achieves the necessary number of qualifying wins with a purebred pig. This scheme runs for the entire lifetime of a cavy and multiple Championships can be achieved.

Star Scheme
This second scheme, the Star Scheme, runs annually from January to December each year. Here the objective is to collect as many stars as possible. These stars are included on all Southern Cavy Club affiliated club first prize cards (The number of stars awarded depends on the size of the show, ranging from 1 star up to the major shows which rate 4)

 Insurance Cover
When local clubs affiliate to the Southern Cavy Club they are automatically provided with Third Party Insurance cover against negligence claims in connection with a show. This is very important because most small clubs cannot afford the size of premium required to give them adequate cover
