At the end of July we were delighted to see a record number of 429 cavies at the Southern’s most important show in the cavy calendar: the five star Combined Stock Show, held this year at the Wyevern CC venue in Cheltenham. Of the large entry, unusually, Selfs outnumbered Non-Selfs. Nothing to do with the ESCC Points being offered on all three age groups I suppose? For a full report of this excellent day see the September issue of ‘Cavies’.

We would like to offer many thanks to the all the people, both Southern members and others, who generously gave of their time to help on the day. The Southern Committee was fully stretched, and such help was invaluable to ensure the smooth running of the event. The SCC is run for the benefit of the members and it is good see so many involving themselves in the Club’s activities.

Lee reports that the Club’s website continues to bring in new members and that goods advertised on the site are selling well. Also making their mark are the Goody Boxes which you will see around the shows in the care of Diane & Peter Nunn, Jim & Helen McCormick, Claire England and Stuart Inch.

The third day of the Southern’s Judges’ Accreditation Programme took place in mid August and featured the Dutch and Agouti breeds. We have received useful feedback from the students, and have made some changes in the structure of the training which have been well received. On our next day, September 26th we are studying the Himalayan, and Fox and Tan breeds. If anyone would like to attend either the morning or afternoon session on the SCC Half Day Course scheme, please get in touch. For details see the website on the SCC Judges’ Accreditation Programme page.

If you have any queries about any aspect of the Southern CC, or cavy matters generally, please contact Lee or myself – see the advert on the back page for details - and we will do our best to help.
